Following clashes between Argentine players and members of the Spanish team after the World Cup final, FIFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings based on these incidents alongside several other charges brought against the team throughout the tournament.

Last week, football's governing body, FIFA, appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to investigate the events that unfolded at New Jersey Stadium in New York following the final match. After a 1-0 defeat in the final, several Argentine players and coaching staff members engaged in a clash with Spanish players. FIFA conducted a week-long investigation into the matter.

In a statement, FIFA said, "In accordance with the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the accused have been given the opportunity to present their case. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee will announce its final decision in due course."

When the final whistle blew in the final, Spanish substitute players rushed onto the pitch to celebrate, at which point Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes shoved Spain midfielder Gavi to the ground and struck him in the face. Paredes also struck Spain defender Eric Garcia.

Based on the prosecutor's recommendations, FIFA will now investigate two charges against Argentina's Nahuel Molina, three charges against Leandro Paredes, and one charge against assistant coach Roberto Ayala. The charges have been brought under Article 14 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

Molina also faces potential punishment for a charge of unsportsmanlike conduct under Article 14 of the Disciplinary Code. The same charge has been leveled against Argentina's Thiago Almada and Spain midfielder Gavi.

Under FIFA's disciplinary regulations, players or officials found guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct face a suspension of at least one match. If the charges regarding the clashes are proven, the rule mandates a minimum three-match ban.

Additionally, FIFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association (AFA) for various breaches of discipline across multiple matches.

The allegations include actions contrary to sporting ethics (Article 13), team misconduct (Article 14), discrimination and racist behavior (Article 15), and failure to comply with match order and security regulations (Article 17).

Other charges against Argentina involve discriminatory chants and gestures, delayed match kickoff times, the display of inappropriate messages by the team and spectators, and spectator involvement in throwing objects onto the pitch.

Following their victory over England in the World Cup semi-finals, Argentine players displayed a banner claiming Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. The banner, written in Spanish, read, "The Falkland Islands are Argentine."

FIFA stated that using a sporting event for non-sporting demonstrations or propaganda constitutes a clear violation of the disciplinary code. In 2014, FIFA fined Argentina 20,000 pounds after their footballers displayed a similar banner prior to a friendly match against Slovenia.
