Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) while Fahim Sinha has been chosen as the vice president.

The announcement capped off a definitive election day that saw candidates aligned with the governing body's interim leadership seal a strong majority.

Earlier in the day, Tamim emerged as the highest vote-getter in the board's election, which was held at the BCB headquarters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Voting took place in the BCB board room, concluding at 4 pm while the counting process wrapped up at 6 pm.

Tamim, who previously served as the president of the BCB ad-hoc committee, contested as a candidate from Category-2, which represents the cricket clubs of Dhaka.

A total of 16 candidates competed from the club category for 12 director positions. Standing as the councillor for Old DOHS, Tamim secured the pole position with 73 votes.

He was closely followed by Syed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khasru, both of whom received 72 votes each.

The other successful candidates making it into the new leadership panel were Masuduzzaman (70 votes), Faisal Yasir (68), Fahim Sinha (66), Shahnian Tanim (66), Asif Rabbani (64), Mirza Yasir Abbas (63), Rafiqul Islam Babu (53), Dr. Mahbub Shamim (41), and Sakef Ahmed Salam (41).

Out of the 76 eligible votes within the club category, 74 were officially cast.

Meanwhile, the four unsuccessful candidates in the running were Borhanul Pappu, who received 40 votes, Amjad Hossain (32), Fayazur Rahman Mitu (23), and Imroz Ahmed (20).

The election was held transparently in the presence of the voters, marking a monumental step forward in the formation of the BCB's new Board of Directors panel.
