Former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team, Tamim Iqbal, has withdrawn his nomination from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election.
The election's polling date is set for October 6, and the deadline for withdrawing nominations was October 1. Tamim pulled out of the BCB election on the final day for withdrawals.
Despite previously expressing his interest in working directly with the board, the former captain ultimately decided to withdraw his nomination.
Tamim's Potential Role and the Impact of His Withdrawal
Tamim is one of Bangladesh's most successful cricketers, and his name is consistently ranked among the nation's most successful captains.
After concluding his playing career, Tamim had intended to contribute to Bangladesh cricket by joining the board, specifically expressing a desire to be active in cricket operations. However, that will not be happening this term.
Tamim's withdrawal is expected to significantly change the competitive landscape for the Director posts in the election. Many believe this will increase the opportunities for the remaining candidates.
According to information from the BCB Election Commission, a total of 25 candidates had nominated from Category 1 (District/Division).
This includes 3 from Dhaka, 5 from Chattogram, 3 from Khulna, 4 from Rajshahi, 3 from Sylhet, 6 from Rangpur, and 1 from Barishal.
Additionally, 32 candidates nominated from Category 2 (Dhaka Clubs), and 3 candidates from Category 3.
