The Bangladesh Women's Cricket team, led by Nigar Sultana, started their ODI World Cup campaign with a win against Pakistan. However, after losing four consecutive matches, the team was on the brink of elimination.

The slim chance they had was extinguished yesterday. Chasing a target of 203 against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh lost four wickets for just one run in the final over while needing nine runs to win, officially bowing out of the World Cup.

Bangladesh was on track for victory in their chase of the 203-run target (off 300 balls), but ultimately stumbled at the finish line, losing a nail-biting match against Sri Lanka. Captain Nigar Sultana, batting at number five, remained at the wicket until the final over but could not lead her team to victory. She was dismissed after scoring 77 runs off 98 balls, including 6 fours.

In the final over, Bangladesh needed just 9 runs to win. They lost 4 wickets in 6 balls while attempting to score those 9 runs and were eventually defeated by 7 runs, ending their World Cup run.

Chasing the target, Bangladesh could only manage 195 runs, losing 9 wickets. Nigar Sultana was the highest scorer with 77 off 98 balls.

Sharmin Akter, who returned to the field despite an injury to bat at the end of the innings after making 64 off 103 balls, could not help the team secure the win.

In Mumbai, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 202 runs in 48.4 overs. Perera top-scored for the team with 85 runs. For Bangladesh, Shorna Akter claimed 3 wickets for 27 runs.

Marufa Akter provided a great start for Bangladesh by taking a wicket with the very first ball of the innings. However, Sri Lanka recovered thanks to a counter-attack led by Chamari Athapaththu.

Sri Lanka was on course for a large total due to the brilliant batting of top-order batter Hasini Perera, but Shorna Akter and her teammates cleaned up the tail, taking 6 wickets for just 28 runs to bowl the Lankans out in 48.4 overs.
