Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has etched his name in history as the first Bangladeshi bowler to touch the unique milestone of 250 wickets in Test cricket.
The 32-year-old achieved the feat on Sunday morning, the fifth and final day of the second Test against Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, by dismissing spin all-rounder Andy McBrine.
Ireland resumed batting on the fifth morning with a score of 176 for 6. Only 13 runs were added to the board before Taijul struck. He trapped McBrine, who had scored 21 off 53 balls, leg-before-wicket (LBW) to claim his historic 250th scalp.
Taijul reached this landmark in just his 56th Test match. Earlier in the match, he had leveled Shakib Al Hasan’s tally of 246 wickets by taking four wickets on the third day.
On Saturday (November 22), during Ireland's second innings, Taijul officially surpassed Shakib to become Bangladesh’s all-time leading wicket-taker in Tests by dismissing Irish captain Andy Balbirnie.
