In a high-stakes encounter where their semi-final hopes were crushed mid-game, Pakistan managed a narrow 5-run "consolation" victory over Sri Lanka.

Despite the win, Pakistan finished their T20 World Cup campaign tied on 3 points with New Zealand but crashed out due to an inferior net run rate.

The match was a rollercoaster of mathematical scenarios. To keep their semi-final dreams alive, Pakistan needed to restrict Sri Lanka to 147 runs or fewer.

Once the Lankans crossed that threshold, Pakistan’s exit was officially confirmed, turning the remainder of the match into a battle for pride.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan posted a formidable 212/8, fueled by a massive 176-run opening stand between Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman.

Farhan anchored the innings with a brilliant 100.
Fakhar Zaman contributed a blistering 84.

However, following the dismissal of the openers, Pakistan suffered a dramatic collapse, losing 8 wickets for just 34 runs, which prevented them from reaching a potentially insurmountable total.

Chasing 213, Sri Lanka stumbled early, losing Pathum Nissanka (3) and Kamil Mishara (26) cheaply.
