To call what happened yesterday at Eden Gardens one of the greatest onslaughts in cricket history might be an understatement.
The Kiwi openers made a mockery of a South African side that had remained unbeaten through seven consecutive matches in the group stage and Super Eight of T20 World Cup 2026.
Chasing a target of 170, Tim Seifert and Finn Allen reduced the Proteas’ bowling attack to a pedestrian level.
Finn Allen, in particular, was in a clinical, "murderous" mood.
In a high-voltage semi-final, he set an unbelievable record by smashing an unbeaten century off just 33 balls.
His superhuman performance blew South Africa away like straw, handing them their "return tickets" home while the dashing opener steered New Zealand into the final in royal fashion.
Earlier, after being put in to bat at the historic Eden Gardens, South Africa managed to post 169 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Marco Jansen led the fight for the Proteas with an unbeaten 55.
However, Aiden Markram’s side could never have imagined that this competitive total would collapse like a house of cards in the face of the "Finn Allen storm."
New Zealand chased down the 170-run target in just 12.5 overs, with 9 wickets to spare.
From the start of the chase, both Kiwi openers stayed aggressive against the South African bowlers.
While Tim Seifert departed after reaching his fifty, the Proteas had no answer for Finn Allen at the other end.
Unleashing a flurry of boundaries and sixes across the ground, he reached the magic figure in just 33 deliveries—now the fastest century in International T20 cricket between two Test-playing nations.
