
Cyclonic Storm 'Montha' has moved very close to the coast. It is expected to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh, India, as a Severe Cyclonic Storm between this afternoon and tonight (Tuesday, October 28).
This information was shared in a Facebook post on Tuesday (October 28) by the private weather monitoring agency, the Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT).
The post further stated that due to the cyclone's influence, isolated rainfall may begin in the southern parts of Bangladesh from noon today, and the amount of rainfall may increase across the country starting Wednesday.
Although the cyclone is not expected to hit Bangladesh directly, its periphery will likely initiate a spell of rain called 'Akhi' starting Wednesday.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) Latest Forecast
The latest forecast from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reports that the Cyclonic Storm 'Montha,' which was positioned over the West-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining South-West Bay of Bengal, has moved further north-northwestward and is currently situated in the same area.
As of midnight on Monday, the cyclone was centered:
'Montha' is likely to move further north-northwestward, intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm, and is very likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast of India by this evening or night.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone center is 62 km/h, which is increasing up to 88 km/h in the form of squalls or gusty winds. The sea near the cyclone center is reported to be very rough/high.
