Ferry operations on two major river routes—Aricha-Kazirhat and Paturia-Daulatdia—have resumed on Monday after thick fog forced multi-hour suspensions to ensure passenger safety.
On the Aricha-Kazirhat route, services returned to normal at 9:20 am following a 10-hour standstill.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Arichaghat Manager Md Abdullah noted that the suspension began at 11:30 pm on Sunday night when visibility on the Jamuna River dropped to dangerous levels.
All vessels are now operating at full capacity.
Similarly, the Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed operations at 7:00 am today after a six-hour delay.
BIWTC Deputy General Manager Abdus Salam stated that services were halted at midnight on Sunday as a precautionary measure against the dense fog blanketing the riverbed.
With visibility improved, all ferries on this route are now running normally and transporting vehicles as scheduled.
