An atmospheric low-pressure system has materialized over the northwest Bay of Bengal alongside contiguous zones, compelling the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) to issue an advisory weather alert for the nation's maritime ports and littoral territories.
A specialized bulletin disseminated by the BMD on Thursday indicates that this meteorological disturbance is capable of triggering squally atmospheric conditions across maritime harbors, the northern reaches of the bay, and nearby coastal belts.
Consequently, port authorities have instructed the maritime stations of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to hoist local cautionary signal number three as a preemptive safety measure.
Furthermore, the meteorological agency has directed all fishing boats and motorized trawlers navigating the North Bay to maneuver close to the shoreline and navigate with heightened vigilance until subsequent notice is provided.
Administration officials have called upon fishing communities and marine vessels operating within the impacted zones to maintain strict vigilance and closely track ongoing weather bulletins distributed by forecasting agencies.
The weather office anticipates releasing subsequent advisories contingent upon the trajectory and intensification rate of the active low-pressure system.
Although maritime alerts remain in effect, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department confirmed that no restrictive signals have been enforced for inland river ports across the country through 6 pm on this day.
According to the official riverport weather outlook, zero warning signals will remain operational across domestic river corridors from 9 am until 6 pm on Thursday.
Nonetheless, maritime authorities and river vessel operators have been advised to stay watchful and continuously review weather updates to account for any sudden atmospheric shifts.
