Every Palestinian Life is Precious, I Call for a Ceasefire: Dr. Yunus
Bangladesh's interim government Chief Adviser and Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stated, "As human beings, every Palestinian life is invaluable. Those responsible for the crimes against humanity being committed against the people of Palestine must be held accountable."
Speaking in Bengali at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday morning, September 27, at the UN headquarters in New York, Dr. Yunus made these remarks.
Dr. Yunus said, "In a world currently plagued by multiple crises, war and conflict are severely infringing upon human rights. Despite global concern and condemnation, the massacre in Gaza continues. The current situation in Palestine is alarming not only for Arabs or Muslims but for all of humanity."
He continued, "The ongoing atrocities against the people of Palestine, especially the brutality faced by women and children, as witnessed by the world, demand immediate action. Bangladesh calls for a full ceasefire without delay. A two-state solution is the only way to bring sustainable peace to the Middle East. Therefore, the United Nations and the international community must act immediately to implement this solution."
The Chief Adviser also remarked, "Over the past two and a half years, the war in Ukraine has claimed many lives. Its impact is widespread and even felt in Bangladesh’s economy. We, therefore, urge both sides to engage in dialogue to resolve the conflict and bring an end to the war."
