Bangladeshis Perform Hajj Most in 2017, Less in 2009
During the last 15 and a half years during the previous Awami League government, most people from Bangladesh performed Hajj in 2017. On the other hand, in 2009, the least number of pilgrims from Bangladesh went to Saudi Arabia.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has released the Hajj quota and the number of Hajj pilgrims in Bangladesh from 2009 to 2024. However, Hajj was closed in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the calculations of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, in 2017, a maximum of 1,27,198 people performed Hajj from Bangladesh by government and private management. This was also the quota of pilgrims that year.
In 2009, 58,628 performed Hajj from Bangladesh, which was the lowest number of Bangladeshi pilgrims in the last 15 years. In 2009, the quota of Bangladeshi pilgrims was 65,000.
