The Election Commission (EC) has urged individuals to apply for corrections if there are errors in their National Identity Card (NID) information. It has instructed people to visit the relevant Upazila or Thana election office to rectify the errors before January 2.

This announcement was made in a press release signed by Shariful Alam, Director (Public Relations) of the Election Commission Secretariat, on Sunday, December 8.

According to the press release, a draft voter list will be published on January 2. Those with errors in their NID are requested to urgently visit the relevant Upazila or Thana election office to apply for corrections before this date.

As per the Voter List Act, Bangladeshi citizens are eligible to become voters upon reaching the age of 18. Citizens can register as voters at any time during the year.

However, the Election Commission updates the voter list on March 2 every year. Before that, a draft list is published on January 2 to invite claims and objections. After resolving these, the final list is published. National and local government elections are conducted based on this final voter list.
