Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has issued a stern directive to the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG), mandating total impartiality and professionalism during the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election 2026 and the Referendum, scheduled to be held on February 12.

Speaking at a medal distribution ceremony at the BCG Headquarters in the capital's Agargaon area on Tuesday, the Adviser emphasized that any biased behavior or political involvement by state employees would meet with "strict legal and departmental action."

To ensure a secure electoral environment for the polls, the government has mobilized a massive security apparatus of nearly nine lakh personnel, including 3,585 Coast Guard members.

Already, 100 platoons of the Coast Guard have been deployed across riverine and coastal districts in the Barishal, Chattogram and Khulna divisions.

“You are employees of the state. Any biased behavior or involvement in political activities will not be tolerated,” Jahangir Alam Chowdhury warned, reminding the force that they are funded by taxpayers and bound by a sacred duty to protect the national interest above all else.

Beyond election duties, the Home Adviser highlighted the BCG’s growing international reputation and the government’s commitment to its modernization.

He noted that the force is currently utilizing 12 surveillance drones donated by the Australian Border Force with further plans to procure high-speed bulletproof boats and ground control stations.

Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani and Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque were present at the ceremony, where 40 officers and sailors were honored for their distinguished service.
