Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has reaffirmed Bangladesh’s steadfast commitment to global peace and security, describing multilateralism as the "cornerstone" of the nation's foreign policy since its induction into the United Nations.

The Foreign Minister’s remarks were delivered during a high-profile reception hosted by the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the UN in New York on Thursday, commemorating the country’s 56th Independence and National Day.

The event drew approximately 150 attendees, including permanent representatives, senior UN officials, and members of the diplomatic community.

Serving as the chief guest, Dr. Rahman highlighted Bangladesh’s active engagement with the UN since 1974.

He specifically pointed to the nation's significant contributions to international peacekeeping missions and its ongoing humanitarian role in supporting the Rohingya people.

He noted that by adhering to the UN Charter, Bangladesh has achieved "remarkable socio-economic progress" over the last five decades, despite facing numerous global challenges.

In his welcome address, Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized that March 26 represents more than just the birth of a nation.

"It symbolizes the enduring triumph of the people's will, dignity, and freedom," he stated.

The day’s commemorations also included a dedicated discussion session at the Mission’s auditorium, featuring a screening of a documentary on the liberation struggle and the reading of official messages from national leadership.
