Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday declared that the government is committed to building a police force completely free from political interference in the "new Bangladesh" achieved through the sacrifices of the July martyrs.

Speaking as the chief guest at the passing-out parade of the 43rd BCS (Police) batch at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarada, the Minister emphasized that a historic transformation is underway where the responsibilities of new officers have become significantly greater.

"We are going through a historic transformation where the responsibilities of new officers are much greater.

In the new Bangladesh achieved through the sacrifices of martyrs of July, the police force will be kept completely free from political interference," the Minister stated while addressing the newly commissioned officers.

He urged the recruits to serve as genuine public servants and work towards establishing a people-friendly, reform-oriented, and discrimination-free force.

During his speech, the Home Minister revealed that the government is actively working to replace outdated, colonial-era police laws with modern, time-befitting legislation.

He also confirmed that a change to the current police uniform is under active consideration at the highest policy level based on internal feedback.

"The government is considering revising the current police uniform based on feedback from the force and discussions are ongoing at the highest policy level," he noted.

The Minister stressed a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and instructed the officers to be agents of change in ensuring the rule of law.

"You must instill fear in criminals and a sense of security among innocent citizens. Everyone is equal in the eyes of law, whether a political activist or a marginal farmer. Uphold discipline, chain of command, and coordinated leadership," he added, while also highlighting the necessity of enhanced technical knowledge to combat evolving digital crimes.

The ceremony marked the conclusion of a one-year basic training program for 72 trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) that began on March 1, 2025.

The Minister took the salute and inspected the parade, which was led by Parade Commander Probationary ASP Ahmed Sadman Sakib. Following the parade, medals were distributed to top achievers.

Probationary ASP Md Fahim Faisal was adjudged both the Best Probationer and Best in Academics.

Other awardees included Md Arafat Hossain for Best in Field Activities, Shaon Reza for Best in Horsemanship, and Bapi Kumar Das, who was recognized as the Best Shooter.
