The annual Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference 2026 is set to begin on May 3, marking the first major administrative event of the year.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will officially inaugurate the four-day summit at 10:30 am at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

The conference, which concludes on May 6, serves as a vital platform for direct dialogue between top policymakers and field administration officials.

According to the Cabinet Division, this year’s event will feature 34 working sessions covering 56 ministries, divisions, and organizations.

A total of 1,729 proposals were initially submitted by eight divisional commissioners and 64 deputy commissioners. Following a rigorous scrutiny process, 498 proposals were finalized for policy-level discussion.

Mohammad Khorshed Alam, Joint Secretary of the Cabinet Division, noted that the remaining submissions were excluded due to duplication or prior resolution.

This year’s agenda focuses heavily on:

Public Service & Governance: Reducing public suffering, improving land management, and expanding healthcare.

Social & Infrastructure: Infrastructure development, poverty alleviation, and enhancing the social safety net.

Security & Drug Control: Strengthening law and order and curbing cross-border drug trafficking, which officials say is currently hindered by influential interference.

Education Reform: Proposing amendments to allow executive magistrates to take swift action against exam irregularities and formulating a policy for Qawmi madrasas.

In a significant move for the agriculture sector, the field administrators have placed urgent recommendations for the construction of the Padma Barrage to protect the southwestern region from the impact of India’s Farakka Barrage.

Additionally, the proposal includes the immediate rehabilitation of the Ganga-Kapotaksha Irrigation Project to secure water for 150,000 hectares of land across Kushtia, Chuadanga, Magura, and Jhenaidah.

Beyond the working sessions presided over by the Cabinet Secretary, the district administrators are scheduled for courtesy meetings with the President, the Chief Justice, the Speaker of the House, and the chiefs of the three-armed forces—sessions that were notably absent from last year’s itinerary.

The Cabinet Division’s Field Administration Coordination Wing has already directed all secretaries and private secretaries to ministers to complete necessary preparations to ensure the conference successfully addresses field-level administrative experiences and recommendations.
