The Dubai Taxi Company will recruit 6,000 skilled drivers from Bangladesh this year, with the formal interview and selection process scheduled to begin tomorrow (Monday) at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre.

The announcement was made on Sunday during a courtesy meeting between Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury and a visiting delegation from the Dubai Taxi Company at the ministry in the capital.

During the meeting, the minister thanked the delegation for selecting skilled drivers from Bangladesh and expressed his hope that this recruitment drive would continue in the years ahead.

He assured the delegation that the ministry would provide all necessary support throughout the entire process.

Furthermore, the minister urged the company to ensure that workers receive their salaries and allowances during their initial training period after arriving in Dubai.

He also requested that the company look into recruiting other categories of professionals from Bangladesh, including doctors and nurses.

Representatives of the Dubai Taxi Company shared that around 15,000 employees from 27 different countries are currently employed by the company as taxi and limousine drivers.

Out of these, nearly 8,000 are Bangladeshi nationals.

The delegation emphasized that Bangladeshi workers are consistently given priority in their recruitment processes due to their high skill levels and dedication to hard work.

They further explained that the interviews starting tomorrow will initially screen and select approximately 1,500 new drivers, serving as the first phase toward their total target of recruiting 6,000 Bangladeshi drivers before the end of the year.

Speaking at the event, State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Nurul Haque highlighted that Bangladeshi drivers traditionally have to spend a large amount of money to migrate to Dubai.

Noting that the majority of these workers come from low-income backgrounds and often take out high-interest loans to secure overseas employment, he urged the concerned authorities to actively reduce migration costs and cap them within BDT 100,000.

Representatives of Al Anas Overseas—an approved recruiting agency responsible for sending workers to the United Arab Emirates—were also present at the meeting.

They expressed their strong interest in expanding recruitment from Bangladesh to include cleaners, technicians, and mechanics alongside professional drivers.

The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Md. Mokhter Ahmed, senior officials from the Dubai Taxi Company, and other high-ranking ministry officials.
