Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman on Sunday stated that the prosecution will seek the maximum punishment for the accused in the sensational Ramisa rape and murder case, the trial of which is set to begin on Monday.

"We expect that the available evidence will ensure the maximum punishment for the accused," he said.

The Law Minister made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a financial assistance cheque distribution programme held this morning at the auditorium of the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad in Jhenaidah district, an event organized by the Jhenaidah Zila Parishad.

Addressing other national issues, Md. Asaduzzaman mentioned that five members had been requested from the opposition party to join the constitutional amendment committee.

He added that the opposition had informed the government they would announce their decision later, noting, "We are now waiting for their decision."

The minister further emphasized that it is the collective responsibility of all citizens to protect society and the state from the menace of narcotics, urging everyone to remain united against drug abuse.

"There will be no compromise on drugs," the minister firmly added.

Outlining the administration's social welfare commitments, the Law Minister stated that the government plans to provide family cards to 40 million households across the country.

He explained that farmer cards have already been introduced in different regional areas and will be gradually rolled out nationwide.

Furthermore, he revealed that strategic plans are actively underway to provide government allowances to imams of mosques and priests of temples.

The meeting was presided over by Jhenaidah Zila Parishad Administrator M A Majid. The gathering was also addressed by Deputy Commissioner Md. Noman Hossain and Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, among others.

Senior Joint General Secretary of Jhenaidah BNP Abdus Salam Biswas, Upazila BNP General Secretary Humayun Babur Firoz, and Officer-in-Charge of Shailkupa Police Station Humayun Kabir Mollah were also present at the event.
