A 21-year-old Facebook group administrator has been apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bangladesh Police on allegations of web-based trickery, cyber blackmail and technology manipulation tied to the resale of tickets for an upcoming concert featuring Pakistani vocalist Atif Aslam.

Authorities identified the detained individual as Md. Bakhtiar Abid Khan, a resident living in the Malibagh Chowdhurypara area of the capital.

According to cyber investigators, the entertainment firms Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc. are currently slated to produce the Atif Aslam musical event on July 24 at the 300 Feet Cricketers Academy situated in Purbachal.

The corporate entities entered a partnership with the vendor GetMyTicket.live to distribute the entry passes, initiating marketing runs across Main Stage Inc.’s official Facebook page starting July 8.

During the rollout, the production teams reportedly uncovered that a digital community named Bangladesh Concert & Event Connects (BCEC) was advertising available event tickets by showcasing images of ticket stubs originating from an entirely different, previously abandoned concert.

The deceptive updates were allegedly distributed by several online handles to manipulate eager music fans into purchasing them.

The formal grievance states that when the event staff approached the group’s head moderator—who managed the platform through a personal page named "Ak Abid Khan"—to ask for the prompt deletion of the scam listings, the individual instead demanded a payout of BDT 100,000.

He reportedly warned the team that if the financial demand was rejected, he would keep endorsing the fraudulent entries while intentionally sabotaging the public trust and commercial success of Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc.

Reacting to the extortion attempt, Nisha Mahbuba Salam, acting on behalf of the organizing companies, lodged an official complaint with the Paltan Police Station on July 15 under the statutory guidelines of the Cyber Security Act, 2026.

Upon assuming control of the legal inquiry, specialized CID personnel tracked down the precise location of the suspect by utilizing state-of-the-art digital forensics and local informant networks.

The suspect was successfully cornered and arrested during a targeted police sweep in Malibagh Chowdhurypara around 4:30 pm on July 16.

Officers recovered and confiscated an iPhone 11 during the raid, which is believed to have been the primary device utilized to perpetrate the alleged online crimes.

During initial questioning while in police custody, the suspect reportedly confessed that he was the active controller overseeing the Bangladesh Concert & Event Connects (BCEC) group page and admitted to managing the profile utilizing the alias "Ak Abid Khan," as detailed by CID sources.

The individual has since been presented before a judicial magistrate, while detectives continue their ongoing examination into the full scope of the fraudulent network.
