Court Sets Sept 27 for CID Report on Sharif Osman Hadi Murder Case

A court in Dhaka has set September 27 for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit its further investigation report on the high-profile murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam issued the directive after the investigating agency failed to present its findings in court.

The court had previously ordered the CID to conduct a supplementary probe on January 15, 2026, following a "naraji" (no-confidence) petition submitted by the case's complainant, who expressed dissatisfaction with the initial findings submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police.

The DB had pressed charges on January 6 through Inspector Foysal Ahmed against 17 individuals.

The charge-sheet named the suspected shooter, Foysal Karim Masud, along with his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum.

According to case records, Foysal Karim Masud and accomplice Alamgir Hossain ambushed Hadi on December 12, 2025, opening fire on him while he was traveling in a battery-operated auto-rickshaw before escaping.

Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber initially lodged the case with the Paltan Model Police Station on December 14.

While the case was originally filed under attempted murder charges, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad directed the addition of Section 302 (murder) under the Penal Code on December 20, following Hadi's death on December 18.

Following the incident, Mariam's father, SM Masum Billah, lodged a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on the morning of September 21, naming Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Maksuda Islam, and Mariam's maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman as accused parties for allegedly abetting the suicide.
