Two young men arrested in connection with the brutal murder of four family members, including a former schoolteacher, at their home in Rangpur city have confessed to the killings before a local court.

The accused, maternal cousins Mugdha Das (23) and Siddhartha Das (19) recorded their confessional statements before Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Rafiq-ul Islam at around 11:30 pm on Sunday, confirmed Milon Chakraborty, Inspector (Investigation) of Kotwali Police Station and the investigating officer in the case.

Inspector Milon noted that while both suspects provided detailed statements to the court, the specific disclosures have been withheld in the interest of the ongoing investigation.

Addressing whether additional accomplices were involved or if law enforcement would seek custody, the investigating officer explained, "It can be said after the investigation. As they have confessed, there was no need to seek remand."

The victims have been identified as Ganapati Chakraborty alias Jewel (65), a former teacher at Rangpur Zilla School; his wife Pritilata Chakraborty (50); their daughter Parthi Chakraborty Agami (25); and their son Priyam Chakraborty Ayush (12), a Class V student at Rangpur Zilla School.

The tragedy came to light on Saturday night when police recovered the victims' bodies from different areas of their home in the city's Machuapara Mandir neighborhood at around 11:30 pm.

Officers found one body on the rooftop, two on the terrace, and the fourth inside a room.

Earlier on Sunday morning, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud disclosed initial details of the investigation during a press conference prior to the suspects' court appearance, confirming that a murder case has been registered at Kotwali Police Station.
