Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Vice-President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation and a distinguished medical professional, emphasized on Tuesday that fostering an enabling environment is vital to help children cultivate their capabilities and fulfill their boundless potential through comprehensive education, medical care, physical recreation, and close interaction with the natural environment.
“Every child’s life is filled with countless dreams and aspirations. What we need is a sound education system, arrangements for their mental and physical wellbeing, opportunities to play and move freely amid greenery and nature, and assurance of treatment for any illness,” she said.
Speaking in her capacity as the chief guest during a cultural event following an inspection of ‘Blue Sky’, a specialized institution for children with special needs operated by the Bangladesh Air Force in Agargaon, capital Dhaka, this afternoon, Zubaida Rahman—who is also the spouse of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman—underscored that youngsters represent the bedrock of the nation’s future.
Reflecting on their potential, Dr. Zubaida noted, “Coming here, one thought comes to my mind—that the open sky is the ultimate limit for any aspiration. So, children and adolescents will move forward with sky-high aspirations and potential as they are the great soldiers who will build tomorrow’s Bangladesh. Children are the future of the nation.”
Drawing attention to historical milestones aimed at encouraging youth development, she recalled that the Bangladesh Shishu Academy was founded specifically for juvenile enrichment, which was subsequently followed by provisions ensuring free higher education opportunities for female students.
She added that young minds are continually discovering avenues to showcase their proficiency via cultural and athletic contests such as ‘Notun Kuri’.
Emphasizing the necessity of equitable access nationwide, Zubaida asserted that no young individual should be sidelined due to administrative oversight or neglect.
She advocated for the implementation of comprehensive educational resources, healthcare services, recreational facilities, and healthy surroundings across all 64 districts, sub-districts, unions, and rural villages.
Commending the artistic displays put forth by the youth, she observed that adequate mentorship and appropriate training allow youngsters to exhibit extraordinary aptitude.
“Achieving success collectively and developing a sporting spirit will later give them the strength and confidence to become good citizens of the country,” she elaborated.
Characterizing children as precious national assets, Zubaida Rahman encouraged them to chase their objectives with unyielding resolve.
“Today you have proved that you can achieve something meaningful by working together. This is also extremely important in sports. This learning will later give you the courage and strength to become good citizens. You will shine like stars and illuminate the face of Bangladesh,” she remarked.
Shifting focus to gender empowerment, she praised the contributions of the Bangladesh Air Force Women’s Welfare Association (BAFWWA), describing their professional training programs and handicraft initiatives as highly commendable and progressive endeavors driving female advancement.
Noting that women constitute 51 percent of the national populace, she commended BAFWWA for advancing such transformative welfare frameworks.
Additionally, she extended her appreciation to the pupils of Golden Eagle School, wishing them absolute triumph in scaling the heights of their capabilities.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Zubaida Rahman toured the facilities of Blue Sky School and witnessed a cultural presentation arranged with the active involvement of special-needs children alongside attendees of the BAFWWA Golden Eagle Nursery.
The special-needs students presented various items, including musical renditions, dance routines, and a structured fashion show.
She expressed deep admiration for BAFWWA’s philanthropic efforts in delivering specialized educational frameworks and therapeutic interventions for exceptional children, alongside fostering financial independence among women.
Following the performances, the young learners of Blue Sky School participated in a commemorative group photograph alongside the chief guest.
On behalf of BAFWWA and the Others Women and Children Club (OWCC), Dr. Zubaida Rahman was honored with an official welcome memento and a commemorative portrait of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
An informational video documentary showcasing the ongoing operations of BAFWWA projects and Blue Sky School was also broadcast during the event.
The welcome remarks were delivered by BAFWWA and OWCC President Saleha Khan, while Blue Sky School Principal Group Captain Mohammad Nur Ullah addressed the audience.
The gathering was graced by the presence of the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Administration), vice presidents of the BAFWWA Central Committee, representatives from BAFWWA’s AK Khandker and Bashar regional branches, and other senior officials of the Bangladesh Air Force.
