In response to the recent increase in fuel prices, the Road Transport Owners Association has proposed a hike in bus fares during a meeting with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

The meeting was held on Monday afternoon (September 21) at the BRTA headquarters in Banani, with representatives from bus owners, workers, and other relevant stakeholders in attendance.

During the meeting, the association proposed raising bus fares by 20 poisha per kilometer.

Specifically, the proposed fare for long-distance buses would increase from 2.73 BDT to 2.93 BDT (Note: reflecting proportional standard adjustments) per kilometer.

Additionally, fares in the Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas are proposed to rise from 2.53 BDT to 2.73 BDT per kilometer.

Furthermore, the Road Transport Owners Association has proposed increasing minibus fares in the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) area from 2.32 BDT to 2.52 BDT per kilometer.

Following the meeting, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association General Secretary ASM Ahmed Khokon stated that the fare hike has been proposed due to the rising cost of fuel, and an official gazette notification is expected within a day or two.
