Rupa Huq, a Labour Party MP of the United Kingdom (UK), today (Sunday) visited the July Uprising Memorial Museum here, where she toured exhibitions documenting the fascist rule of Sheikh Hasina, events during the July uprising and incidents of repression and torture.
During her visit to different galleries of the museum, Huq became emotional while observing memorials of those who were killed during the uprising and historical documentaries, said a press release.
Describing the exhibits as highly significant and painful, she said many people abroad are still unaware of the true picture of the misdeeds and human rights violations committed during the previous Awami League government.

She stressed the need to properly present these facts at the international level, particularly in diplomatic circles.
During the visit, Huq also took keen interest in the context of the July uprising in Pabna, her ancestral district, and sought detailed information about the overall situation there and those who were killed during the movement.
At the end of her visit, Huq made a formal comment and signed the museum's visitors' book.
"A fascinating exploration of recent history with lessons for the future. Not for the faint hearted," she wrote.
Later, Huq held a courtesy meeting and exchanged views with July Museum Director General (DG) Ehsan Mahmud.

They discussed the museum's existing activities and future plans.
Huq assured that she would extend all possible support, from her position, to the development and overall activities of the July Museum in the future.
Considering the historical significance of the mass uprising, she also suggested keeping the museum open for free visits by all citizens of the country.
