ACC Chairman’s drive; most teachers absent in Chattogram schools

There was news to Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud that teachers do not come to most of the schools regularly in Chattogram metropolitan area. While arranging a surprise visit to a school in Chattogram on Sunday the ACC Chairman found seven teachers out of eight absent from their duties. In another school two teachers were absent.

Public Relations department of ACC said, the ACC Chairman made the surprise visit to three schools.

According to ACC source, the ACC Chairman went to Chattogram at around 8:30 am and made the first visit at around 9:15 am at Kattali Nurul Haque Chowdhury Primary School.

At that time the ACC Chairman surprised to see the students and guardians staying outside of the school. While visiting the school on spot he found only acting head master present out of the eight teachers. Students were passing idle time eating pickles and chanachur.

After reaching the ACC Chairman the guardians expressed their frustration over their children’s education. At that time Iqbal Mahmud said, nobody will be allowed to play game with our children’s education. Education in the classes will be ensured at any cost. If needed, ACC will apply section 166 of the ACC penal code. Nobody will be spared who try to harm our next generation.

In the section 166 of the ACC penal code it is mentioned about punishment for the violators of laws who intend to harm certain person. The punishment will be one year sentence or fines or both in this connection.

Later the ACC Chairman went to Bhatiari Government Primary School in the city. He found there two teachers absent out of eleven. The school authority could not mention the reason behind their absence.

The ACC Chairman checked the attendance book and found that many students were showed present who were absent on Saturday. Students’ roll calls were not made till 10 am on Sunday. The school authority could not give any excuse.

Aftermath the ACC Chairman made a surprise visit at Shitalpur High Schoo in the city. He was informed there that students who did not come out successful in test examination, were not given chance to appear in SSC examination. He expressed satisfaction after being informed about this.

But there was allegation that some students of class nine who failed in one or more subjects were promoted to class ten after taking two thousand taka from each student. Expressing his anger the ACC Chairman said, it is unethical. There should be no unethical scope for education.
