The death toll from a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in Lohagara has risen to 10. Two individuals remain in critical condition.
Among the severely injured, five were rushed to Chattogram Medical College, where doctors pronounced two dead. Another victim succumbed to injuries at Padua Hospital in Chattogram. The remaining two are still under treatment, with their condition reported as critical.
The tragic accident occurred around 8:30 am today (Wednesday, April 2) in the Chunati area of Lohagara.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that the identities of the deceased had not yet been determined.
According to reports, a Chattogram-bound passenger bus from Relax Paribahan lost control. Despite multiple attempts by the driver to stop the vehicle, it ultimately collided head-on with an oncoming Cox’s Bazar-bound microbus. The crash killed seven microbus passengers on the spot and left five others seriously injured.
Just two days earlier, on Eid day (Monday), another head-on collision between two buses at the same location claimed five lives. Yesterday (Tuesday), two microbuses veered off the road into a ditch in the same area, injuring eight people.
Local residents say frequent accidents on this highway are caused by slippery road conditions due to water spilling from salt-laden trucks.
