The exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr in Bangladesh will be determined this evening.
According to a press release from the Islamic Foundation on Saturday (March 29), the National Moon Sighting Committee will meet on Sunday to confirm the date of Eid. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm (after Maghrib prayer) at the Islamic Foundation's conference room.
Dr AFM Khalid Hossain, the religious affairs advisor to the interim government, is set to preside over the meeting.
If the crescent moon of Shawwal is sighted anywhere in the country on Sunday (March 30), individuals are requested to report it via telephone (02-223381725, 02-41050912, 02-41050916, or 02-41050917) or fax (02-223383397 or 02-9555951). Reports can also be made to the respective Deputy Commissioner (DC) or Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), as per the Islamic Foundation's request.
This year, Ramadan in Bangladesh began on March 2. If the moon is sighted on Sunday (March 30), Ramadan will conclude in 29 days, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday (March 31).
If the moon is not sighted and Ramadan completes 30 days, Eid will be observed on Tuesday (April 1).
