A total of 587 road accidents occurred across Bangladesh in March, resulting in the deaths of 604 people and injuries to at least 1,231 others, according to a report published by the Road Safety Foundation on Saturday (April 12).
Among the fatalities were 89 women and 97 children. Motorcycle accidents were particularly deadly, with 242 incidents leading to 233 deaths — accounting for 38.57% of the total fatalities. Motorcycles were involved in 41.22% of all reported accidents.
Additionally, 109 pedestrians lost their lives, making up 18.04% of the total death toll. Another 98 victims were drivers or their assistants, comprising 16.22% of those killed.
Beyond road incidents, the report noted six waterway accidents that left nine people dead and 14 injured. There were also 16 railway track accidents, resulting in 19 deaths and four injuries.
The Road Safety Foundation prepared its report using data collected from nine national newspapers, seven online news portals, various electronic media, and its own sources.
