Nationwide Security Beefed Up for Victory Day Celebrations

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has implemented a special, enhanced security plan across Bangladesh to ensure the peaceful observance of Grand Victory Day (Mahan Bijoy Dibosh).

In a press release, the agency announced that RAB's visible presence and patrols would be maintained across the country to secure key celebration venues, including the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, Bangabhaban (President's residence), and the Chief Adviser's residence, as part of the necessary security measures for Victory Day 2025 celebrations.

Comprehensive Security Coverage

The security arrangements for Victory Day have been adopted after a thorough review of all potential risks. RAB is coordinating security measures closely with other law enforcement agencies, intelligence bodies, and local administrations. The force is actively working to implement all pre-existing law-and-order directives issued for the national holiday.

Key aspects of the security measures include:

Increased Deployment: Sufficient numbers of RAB personnel have been deployed to reinforce security from December 13 to December 17.

Intelligence and Patrol: Enhanced plainclothes intelligence surveillance and uniformed patrols have been intensified around significant venues in areas under the jurisdiction of RAB battalions.

Cyber Monitoring: RAB's cyber monitoring teams are conducting extensive online surveillance.

Targeted Operations: Special intelligence operations and searches will be carried out targeting suspicious individuals or groups to ensure no one carries or stores items like bags, sacks, or cartons near event sites.

Gangs Prevention: Intelligence gathering against "Kishore Gangs" (juvenile gangs) has been stepped up to prevent them from engaging in conflict and disrupting the events.

VVIP/VIP Security: Security has been strengthened with increased intelligence surveillance in areas frequented by VVIPs, VIPs, foreign diplomatic personnel, and potential public gathering spots.

Checkpoints and Search: Checkpoints have been established and searches are being conducted at important entry and exit points of cities, ensuring security in crowded areas to prevent untoward incidents.

Monitoring Suspect Hideouts: Surveillance is being conducted on all slums, hotels, guest houses, newly developed residential areas on city outskirts, and crime zones to prevent terrorists and criminals from planning activities.

Specialized Teams: RAB's Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad Team have been strategically deployed for round-the-clock security duty. Proactive intelligence gathering and preventive measures are in place to counter any potential sabotage, bombing, or violent incidents.

Women's Safety: Specific attention is being given to ensuring that no woman is subjected to eve-teasing, sexual harassment, or indignity at the events, with legal action being a priority.

Transport Hub Security: Security has been intensified, both in plainclothes and uniform, at and around bus terminals, railway stations, and launch terminals across the country.

Coordination and Control Room

RAB battalions are coordinating with local public representatives and other law enforcement agencies through their respective control rooms. Security across Dhaka and the rest of the country is being monitored and coordinated through the main RAB Headquarters Control Room (Hotline Number: 01777720029).

Sayedur Rahman, who was entrusted with executive powers as a Special Assistant to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the interim government. Context of Resignations The interim government had previously appointed three special assistants with the status of State Ministers to oversee key ministries: Prof. M. Aminul Islam: Appointed to the Ministry of Education; he resigned several months ago. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury: Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), appointed to the Ministry of Home Affairs; he resigned on December 25. Prof. Dr. Md. Jaishankar to Attend Khaleda Zia’s Funeral

Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar is to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow to attend the funeral of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. “External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent the Government and people of India at the funeral of Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party,” the Indian high commission in Dhaka said in a statement this evening. Begum Zia’s Janaza would be held after Zohr prayers while the high commission statement said Jaishankar would accordingly visit Dhaka on December 31. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the morning expressed deep sorrow at Begum Zia’s demise, recalling her contributions to Bangladesh and bilateral relations. “Our sincerest condolences to her family and all the people of Bangladesh. May the Almighty grant her family the fortitude to bear this tragic loss,” he said. The Indian premier recalled her political legacy saying “as the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, her important contributions towards the development of Bangladesh, as well as India-Bangladesh relations, will always be remembered”. “I recall my warm meeting with her in Dhaka in 2015. We hope that her vision and legacy will continue to guide our partnership,” Modi said.
