Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman is scheduled to visit China at the end of this month to discuss bilateral relations. During his visit to Beijing, he is expected to hold a high-level meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The planned visit was discussed on Sunday (April 5) during a courtesy call by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, at the State Guest House Padma in Dhaka.

The upcoming visit follows a congratulatory message sent by Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, after Dr. Khalilur Rahman assumed office on February 17.

In his message, Wang Yi expressed his commitment to working with the new Foreign Minister to implement decisions made by the top leadership of both nations, aiming to elevate the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" between China and Bangladesh to new heights.

Emphasizing the importance Beijing places on its relationship with Dhaka, Wang Yi reaffirmed China's pledge to deepen cooperation across various sectors.

In a related development, the 14th Foreign Secretary-level meeting between the two countries, which was scheduled to take place in Dhaka on April 3, was postponed at the last minute.

The meeting was to be led by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong; however, the Chinese side requested a postponement following his recent promotion to a full ministerial role.

Diplomatic sources indicate that the Foreign Secretary-level meeting is unlikely to be rescheduled before Dr. Khalilur Rahman’s upcoming departure for Beijing.
