A visiting US special envoy and senior officials today underscored enhanced Bangladesh-US cooperation in education, healthcare and child welfare during a programme at Surovi School in the capital's Dhanmondi area.

US Special Envoy for Best Future Generations Charles J. Harder, accompanied by the US Ambassador to Dhaka Brent T. Christensen and other senior officials, attended the event hosted by Surovi, focusing on advancing partnerships for children's education, health and overall well-being.

The visit comes amid renewed emphasis on bilateral cooperation in child-focused sectors, including healthcare, food security, WASH and broader protection initiatives.

The delegation was received by Surovi founder MST Iqbal Mand Banu, alongside Lady Zubaida Rahman, Shahina Khan Zaman and other officials, reflecting the organisation's longstanding commitment to inclusive education and child development.

On the sidelines of the visit, Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) organised a free health check-up programme for Surovi School students. More than 300 children received medical screenings, including dental, eye and general paediatric examinations.

The ZRF delegation included Vice President Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Executive Director Prof. Farhad Haleem Donar, Director Prof. Morshed Hasan Khan, Barrister Zaima Rahman, Dr. Mostafa Aziz Sumon and Dr. Aman Ullah.

During the programme, Surovi and ZRF showcased their institutional activities through documentaries, followed by discussions exploring future collaboration in education, healthcare and child development initiatives.

Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin also attended the event, highlighting broader government interest in initiatives aimed at improving children's welfare and development.

The visit marked a significant step in strengthening cooperation between local organisations and international stakeholders, with a shared goal of fostering a healthier and more inclusive future for Bangladesh's next generation.
