Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman is scheduled to depart for Beijing on Tuesday (May 5). The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the visit, marking his first official trip to China since the BNP-led government took office in February.

According to a report by the Chinese state media outlet Global Times, the visit comes at the invitation of Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr Rahman’s diplomatic mission is scheduled to last from May 5 to May 7.

This signifies the second high-level visit to China since the new government was formed. Previously, on April 20, BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited the country.

These high-level engagements follow a recent visit by a 19-member senior BNP delegation to China, which took place at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to strengthen bilateral ties.
