Security has been tightened in the capital and various parts of the country ahead of the founding anniversary of the outlawed Awami League.

The army has been deployed in six districts, including Dhaka and Gopalganj.

Additionally, over 20,000 members of the law enforcement agencies are on high alert in the capital, with increased checkpoints and intensified patrolling.

Tuesday (June 23) marks the 77th founding anniversary of the banned Awami League.

Police Headquarters has issued a countrywide alert amid apprehensions that the organization might attempt to bring out flash processions in various locations, which could lead to clashes with law enforcement if intercepted.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) had earlier announced that over 18,000 police personnel would be deployed across the capital ahead of June 23.

Special checkpoints will be set up at over 200 points, alongside picketing and block raids. Intelligence surveillance will be heightened, security will be monitored from four control rooms, and 15 Quick Response Teams will remain on standby.

Furthermore, one platoon of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will be deployed at 15 strategic points in the capital, while special teams of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be tasked with search operations and patrolling.

Meanwhile, the army has been deployed in six districts, including Dhaka and Gopalganj, surrounding the founding anniversary of the banned party.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated that these additional precautionary measures were taken based on intelligence reports to prevent any subversive activities.

Crime analysts noted that under the current circumstances, the Awami League will not be able to pull off any major public programs.

However, they urged law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant to safeguard public life and property, advising them to further boost intelligence surveillance to avert any acts of sabotage.
