Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that the highest level of corruption took place during the tenure of the interim government. He noted, "I am not the one saying this; it has been reported by the media."

The Home Minister made these remarks during the budget session in the National Parliament on Sunday (June 28).

He urged the Prime Minister to direct the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the severe corruption that occurred both within and around the Yamuna (Jamuna) state guest house during the interim government's administration.

"TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh) recently published a report stating that the 'highest corruption' occurred during the interim government's period. I am not saying this; the media reported it. We had to navigate a volatile period to secure our election. Yes, for the sake of the election and national interest, we signed the July Charter," the Home Minister said.

Salahuddin Ahmed further remarked, "For the sake of the nation and the election, we had to agree to many things despite disagreements. We also had to keep in mind those who wanted to foil the election and remain in power for five years."

In addition, characterizing the budget as public-friendly, he noted that the prices of essential commodities did not increase before or after the budget announcement this time.

The Home Minister expressed hope that everyone would be able to see the positive impact of the budget within the next six months.
