The Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, has paid his final respects to Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

On Friday (July 3), he led the Bangladesh delegation at the state memorial service held at the Grand Mosalla Mosque in Tehran, where he offered his final tributes to Khamenei.

Earlier, the Speaker arrived in Tehran on Thursday (July 2) to attend the state funeral. Prior to paying his respects, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed held a bilateral meeting in Tehran with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) of Iran.

During the meeting, Speaker Ghalibaf welcomed the Bangladeshi Speaker and his accompanying delegation. In their discussions, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed strongly condemned the brutal assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and expressed profound grief. He stated that during this time of national mourning, the government and the people of Bangladesh express their deepest condolences and solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of Iran.

"Bangladesh and Iran share centuries-old friendship, deep cultural ties, and diplomatic relations. This relationship will grow even stronger in the future," Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said.

During the talks, the Speaker highly praised his Iranian counterpart's constructive role in implementing the recently signed peace memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.

He expressed hope that this agreement would bring lasting peace, stability, and prosperity to Iran and the wider region. He also reiterated Bangladesh's continued support for this peace process, expressing optimism that all issues would be permanently resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

To maintain the momentum of bilateral relations between the two countries, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed extended an official invitation to the Iranian Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Speaker of Iran, members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and senior officials from the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tehran.
