Police Headquarters has issued a maximum nationwide alert, including in the capital Dhaka, over fears of potential sabotage targeting vehicles used by the police.

Based on intelligence reports suggesting that members of extremist organizations or miscreants may attack police jeeps, pickups, buses, and other transport, field-level units have been ordered to instantly beef up security measures.

The information came from an urgent directive issued by Police Headquarters on Saturday (August 1).

The urgent message stated that there is no room for any laxity or negligence in ensuring the security of police vehicles. Maximum vigilance must be maintained to secure vehicles, particularly during active duty and when parked after shifts.

It further stated that if a vehicle on duty needs to be temporarily halted, it must be parked in a safe location and kept under constant surveillance by police personnel at all times.

Leaving vehicles unattended under any circumstances—without a driver or assigned officer—has been strictly prohibited.

Additionally, instructions have been given to step up security for all government vehicles parked at police stations, police lines, office compounds, or other designated locations after duty hours.

The directive emphasizes regular patrols, necessary surveillance, and special vigilance to identify suspicious individuals or objects.

Terming the matter "extremely important," the directive called upon officials of all metropolitan areas, ranges, districts, and units across the country to strictly implement these instructions.
