Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, held a high-level, productive meeting with YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Finance of Malaysia, on August 6 at the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia.

The discussions centered on expanding bilateral cooperation across key financial and economic sectors, signaling a mutual commitment to strengthening long-term ties between the two nations.

Key Areas of Collaboration
The talks encompassed a wide array of strategic topics of mutual interest, designed to foster deeper economic integration. Key focus areas included:

Trade and Investment: Progress on a potential Free Trade Agreement and strategic investments in renewable energy.

Institutional and Sectoral Finance: Strengthening collaboration between the central banks of both countries, advancing initiatives in Islamic finance, and exploring financing opportunities within the growing halal industry.

Governance and Security: Joint approaches to anti-money laundering and asset recovery efforts.

Strategic Partnerships: Expanding cooperation with Khazanah Nasional alongside Malaysia's strategic investment in a proposed national fund in Bangladesh.

Welfare of Bangladeshi Workers
During the meeting, High Commissioner Chowdhury formally requested the assistance of the Malaysian Government in streamlining and facilitating the withdrawal of remaining bank account balances belonging to Bangladeshi workers who have either returned or been deported to Bangladesh.

Shared Commitment to Growth
Both leaders underscored the importance of scaling up bilateral economic engagement. They reaffirmed their dedication to driving sustainable economic development through targeted, mutually beneficial initiatives in finance and investment.

Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong welcomed the continued positive trajectory of Bangladesh–Malaysia relations, expressing strong enthusiasm for expanding cooperative efforts across all discussed domains.
