Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam have expressed deep shock and condolences over the tragic deaths of at least 17 Bangladeshi workers in a devastating fire at a sofa factory in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

In a message on Monday (August 10), they conveyed their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members of the deceased Bangladeshi nationals and assured them of standing by their side during this irreparable loss and time of grief.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a sudden and severe fire broke out at the sofa factory in Riyadh on Sunday night (August 9), resulting in the deaths of 17 expatriate Bangladeshis who suffered burn injuries.

Immediately upon receiving news of this severe accident, officials from the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh rushed to the scene and local hospitals.

Currently, the Bangladesh Embassy is working closely with the relevant Saudi authorities to complete the legal and administrative formalities for accurately identifying the victims, preparing relevant documentation, and repatriating the bodies to the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring the entire situation round-the-clock and has assured all necessary diplomatic assistance.
