The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) enforced Section 144 in the vicinity of Jamuna, the official residence of the Chief Adviser, effectively banning all public gatherings, processions, and demonstrations in the area.

The restrictive measure was implemented on Friday to maintain law and order as multiple protest groups converged near the high-security zone.

DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali confirmed the decision, noting that the restrictions were necessary to ensure stability.

The move comes as government employees continue to demonstrate, demanding the immediate publication and implementation of the 9th pay scale gazette.

Security has been significantly tightened with the deployment of six platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at key points, including the Kakrail Mosque and Hotel InterContinental areas. This heightened security presence preceded the formal enforcement of Section 144.

Adding to the tension, the activist platform 'Inqilab Moncho' has been staging a sit-in in front of Jamuna since Thursday, seeking justice for the assassination of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.

Despite the new restrictions, the group has called for supporters to gather near the Hotel InterContinental following Jummah prayers on Friday.

Authorities remain on high alert to prevent any breach of the prohibited zone.
