To ensure a secure environment for the upcoming Sherpur-3 (Sribardi-Jhenaigati) parliamentary by-election, 16 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the constituency.

The deployment, which began today, follows a directive from the Bangladesh Election Commission to guarantee a free, fair, and peaceful voting process on April 9.

According to election officials, the BGB personnel will remain on active duty for a total of eight days, covering the period from five days prior to the election until two days after the polls close on April 11.

Their primary responsibilities include intensive patrolling and assisting civil administration in maintaining overall law and order.

The operation is being coordinated by the BGB’s Mymensingh Sector and managed by the Mymensingh Battalion (39 BGB). To facilitate rapid response, four base camps have already been established within the Sribardi and Jhenaigati upazilas.

Given that Sherpur-3 is a border-adjacent constituency, security measures have been significantly bolstered, with border-stationed units providing additional support to maintain a stable atmosphere.

The by-election was originally slated for February 12 but faced a postponement following the death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nuruzzaman Badal. Under the revised timetable, polling is now set for April 9.

BGB officials emphasized that their members will work in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that voters can cast their ballots without any disruption or intimidation.

Authorities expressed high confidence that these integrated security efforts will lead to a credible and peaceful electoral process for the citizens of the Sherpur-3 constituency.
