Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam announced on Sunday that the city is implementing aggressive new measures to control the mosquito population and curb the spread of dengue.

Speaking at an event in the capital, the Administrator emphasized that the current administration is placing public health and safety at the forefront of its agenda.

To combat the looming threat of mosquito-borne diseases, DSCC has moved to modernize its equipment and improve the quality of its chemical interventions.

“We have already initiated the tender process for procuring new fogger machines," Abdus Salam stated. "Overcoming the limitations of the past, the current administration is giving the highest priority to public safety and health.”

He noted that preparations for preventing dengue and chikungunya outbreaks have been bolstered well in advance. However, he stressed that government action must be met with civic responsibility.

“As Aedes mosquitoes breed in clean water, public awareness is the most important factor here," the Administrator said. "I would urge city residents to keep their homes, yards and rooftops clean so that no stagnant water remains anywhere.”

The policy updates were shared during the official inauguration of the newly renamed ‘Muhammadullah Hafezzi Huzur Road.’
The 530-metre stretch, which runs from the Bangabazar intersection to the Gulistan Golap Shah Mazar, was formerly known as Phoenix Road.

The Administrator explained that the renaming honors the legacy of Muhammadullah Hafezzi Huzur, a prominent Islamic scholar and social thinker.

“This road has been named in recognition of his religious, social and political contributions,” he said, adding that he hopes the scholar's ideals will serve as an inspiration for future generations.

The change was implemented following local public demand and requests from religious leaders, with the formal approval and guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
