A teenage girl was allegedly gang-raped by four individuals early Saturday morning at Gachabari Madhyapara village in Shaghata upazila of Gaibandha district.

Local residents managed to catch three of the alleged attackers from the spot and handed them over to law enforcement.

According to Mahbubur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shaghata Police Station, the victim—the daughter of a Bangladeshi expatriate residing in Saudi Arabia—was involved in a romantic relationship with a local youth named Muktar Hossain.

Around 1:30 am on Saturday, Muktar reportedly asked the girl to slip out of her house to meet him nearby.

While they were together, a group of local criminals suddenly ambushed and chased the duo. Although Muktar managed to escape the scene, the miscreants successfully caught the girl.

The police official stated that the attackers then dragged the victim to a nearby bamboo grove owned by a local resident named Gafur Ali, where they took turns violating her overnight.

As dawn broke, the victim began screaming and crying out desperately for help.

Hearing her cries, local villagers rushed to the scene, surrounded the bamboo grove, and managed to apprehend three of the suspects on the spot.

The police later identified the detained individuals as Nirob Mia, Labu Hasan, and Rahmat Ullah. A fourth suspect, identified as Shwadhin Mia, managed to evade the crowd and flee the area.

Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived at the village, took the three suspects into custody, and rescued the victim.

OC Mahbubur Rahman confirmed that a formal case has been filed with Shaghata Police Station regarding the assault, and law enforcement operations are currently underway to arrest the fleeing suspect.
