State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid announced on Saturday morning that an additional pair of intercity trains will commence operations on the Dhaka–Cox's Bazar corridor later this month, aiming to address rising passenger demand and relieve ongoing ticket scarcity.

Making the announcement during an inspection of the Cox's Bazar Iconic Railway Station, the state minister highlighted that a continuous influx of travelers and tourists toward Cox's Bazar has driven the government to scale up railway services and upgrade passenger amenities.

He voiced optimism that introducing the new train service would substantially alleviate commuter hardship, reduce ticketing pressures, and deliver a reliable, comfortable, and punctual transit experience along the line.

Outlining future development plans, Rashid stated that the government intends to develop the Cox's Bazar Iconic Railway Station into an international-standard, tourism-focused transport hub.

To achieve operational efficiency and provide premium services, full operational management of the terminal will be handed over to a private entity.

Throughout his visit, the state minister evaluated station infrastructure, cleanliness standards, security protocols, passenger service facilities and general management operations, directing responsible authorities to accelerate the complete operational rollout while maintaining global service benchmarks.

The inspection was attended by Cox's Bazar Sadar MP Lutfur Rahman Kazal alongside senior officials from Bangladesh Railway and administrative staff from the iconic station.
