The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) has increased the price of gold by BDT 2,216 per bhori, pushing the rate of high-quality 22-karat gold to BDT 223,074 per bhori, inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT).
In a official statement released on Monday morning, the trade body attributed the upward adjustment to a surge in pure gold prices across the domestic market.
The freshly revised tariff structure came into force at 10 am the same day.
Following the new valuation, a standard bhori—weighing 11.664 grams—of 22-karat gold jewelry stands at BDT 223,074 including VAT.
Rates across other purity categories were similarly adjusted: 21-karat gold escalated by BDT 2,100 to reach BDT 213,043 per bhori, 18-karat gold saw a BDT 1,750 rise to settle at BDT 182,950 per bhori, and traditional category gold ornaments surged by BDT 1,458 to land at BDT 149,474 per bhori.
BAJUS confirmed that these updated rates will apply across all retail jewelry establishments until further notice, though labor and crafting fees will continue to differ depending on ornament design complexity.
Because VAT is pre-calculated into the total sales cost of both gold and silver items, jewelers are prohibited from collecting separate tax amounts from buyers.
Additionally, the association’s established regulations regarding the repurchase and exchange of ornaments—excluding applied VAT, making charges, and gemstone value—remain fully in effect.
This latest hike follows a previous price correction enacted on the morning of July 24, when BAJUS lowered the cost by BDT 3,324 per bhori, bringing 22-karat gold down to BDT 220,858 per bhori including VAT.
According to figures provided by the organization, gold prices in the country have undergone 95 separate adjustments throughout 2026 so far—comprising 46 price increases, 48 reductions, and a single revision related to VAT restructuring.
Alongside gold, silver prices also experienced an upward recalibration.
The price of 22-karat silver ornaments increased by BDT 59 to BDT 4,666 per bhori including VAT.
Meanwhile, 21-karat silver went up by BDT 175 to BDT 4,549 per bhori, 18-karat silver advanced by BDT 116 to BDT 3,907 per bhori, and traditional silver ornaments rose by BDT 116 to reach BDT 2,974 per bhori.
