
In a decisive outcome for the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) elections, candidates supported by Islami Chhatra Shibir swept the top three leadership positions: Vice President (VP), General Secretary (GS) and Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
Running under the 'Odomyo Jobian Oikko' panel, the group secured their victory across all 38 polling centers, with Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr Mostafa Hasan officially announcing the results early Thursday at approximately 1 am.
The race for Vice President concluded with Riazul Islam earning 5,564 votes, outperforming AKM Rakib of the Chhatra Dal-backed 'Oikkoboddho Nirvik Jobian' panel, who received 4,688 votes.
In the contest for General Secretary, Abdul Alim Arif achieved a significant victory with 5,470 votes, maintaining a commanding 3,267-vote lead over Khadijat-ul Kubra, who polled 2,203. Completing the sweep, Masud Rana secured the AGS post with 5,002 votes, defeating BM Atikur Tanzil, who garnered 3,868 votes.
Data provided by Election Commissioner Zulfikar Mahmud revealed that 16,645 students were registered to vote, with a robust turnout of approximately 65%. Concurrent with the central polls, elections were held for the university’s sole women’s residence, Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani Hall.
Participation there was notably high, with a 77% turnout among its 1,242 registered voters.
