The government has launched a new initiative to establish "Math Labs" in state-run primary schools across the country in phases, aiming to foster logical thinking, problem-solving skills and a stronger foundation in science and technology among students.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj announced the program while serving as the chief guest at an exchange-of-views meeting with students, teachers, and guardians.
The discussion followed his visit to Glenrich International School in Satarkul, Badda, in the capital on Thursday.
Highlighting the importance of early academic development, the State Minister stated, "The world is rapidly moving towards a technology-driven economy and a knowledge-based society. To keep pace with this transformation, the foundation of mathematics, science and innovative thinking among children must be strengthened from an early age."
He explained that the Math Lab initiative is central to creating a modern, engaging, and time-befitting learning environment.
"In light of the current government's election manifesto and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visionary education vision, we want to bring a fundamental transformation to the country's primary education system," Hajjaj said.
The State Minister emphasized that these labs would provide students with equal opportunities to cultivate their talents in preparation for future careers in science, engineering, research, and technology.
"We are committed to building a primary education system where every student will have equal opportunities to prepare themselves as future scientists, engineers, researchers and technology innovators. The Math Lab is a very important and revolutionary step towards achieving that goal," he added.
According to the State Minister, this initiative is designed to align primary education with international standards, emphasizing skill-based and technology-friendly learning.
He further noted that the project would make a "far-reaching and significant contribution to building a smart and knowledge-based Bangladesh."
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, as well as a large number of teachers, students, and guardians.
