An article titled ‘Memories of the War of Independence’ (Swadhinata Juddher Smriti), written by Sheheed President Ziaur Rahman, is set to be included in textbooks from the next academic year.

The national literacy rate in Bangladesh has remained stagnant at 77.9% over the past three consecutive years. According to data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the literacy rate has increased by a mere 2.3% over a five-year span, leaving 21.9% of the population—approximately 40 million people—illiterate and unable to read or write.

The 2027 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations will commence on January 7 next year. This decision has been taken to save students' valuable time and align with the international education calendar. The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has stated that the exams will be held as scheduled and there is no scope to postpone the timetable. Professor Syed Akteruzzaman, Chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and Dhaka Education Board, stated that the 2027 SSC exams will begin at the scheduled time announced by the government. Prior to that, institutions have been instructed to complete the designated syllabus and conduct the test examinations. According to the government's 2026 academic calendar, the SSC test or selective examinations are scheduled to be held from October 28 to November 10. The results of the tests must be published by November 18. Consequently, students will get nearly two months of time to prepare for the SSC exams after the conclusion of the test exams. However, compared to previous years, the preparation time has decreased slightly. Typically, students receive two and a half to three months of preparation time after finishing their selective examinations. Pre-test exams have already concluded in various educational institutions across the country. Many institutions are preparing to finish their curricula ahead of schedule and conduct test examinations by mid-October. Along with the capital, Dhaka, several institutions in various divisional and district cities are making similar plans. Nevertheless, most institutions are preparing to hold test exams in accordance with the government academic calendar. As a result, students in these institutions might get less than two months of preparation time before the SSC exams. This has sparked concern among students, guardians, and teachers. They apprehend that reduced preparation time following the selective exams could create additional pressure on students, which might also affect their exam results. However, Professor Syed Akteruzzaman believes that if the curriculum is completed on time and test exams are conducted accordingly, students will not face major problems in their preparation. He has urged institutions to finish the syllabus on time and prepare the students. On the other hand, teachers at various educational institutions state that it may not be possible for all institutions to complete the curriculum by mid-October. Particularly in institutions outside urban areas, a reduction in preparation time raises concerns about students developing learning gaps. For a long time, SSC exams traditionally began in early February and HSC exams in early April. However, maintaining that schedule has not been feasible since the coronavirus pandemic. The 2026 SSC exams began on April 21, and the HSC exams started on July 2. Professor Syed Akteruzzaman noted that students are losing several months of their academic lives every year due to various reasons. As a result, students aspiring to pursue higher education abroad are also facing issues due to session jams. According to him, the exam schedules must be gradually normalized to bring academic year activities back on track. The initiative to hold the 2027 SSC exams in early January is part of that process. He stated that by organizing exams at the scheduled time, it will be possible to minimize the valuable time lost from students' academic lives.

Female students have demonstrated superior academic performance in this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, consistently outperforming male candidates in both overall pass rates and the attainment of top-tier grades. Data from the results shows that female students achieved a pass rate of 66.68 percent, with 607,939 of the 911,791 girls who participated in the exams successfully passing.  In contrast, male candidates recorded a pass rate of 57.86 percent; out of 917,694 boys who sat for the tests, 530,938 qualified.  This performance gap indicates that the female pass rate was 8.82 percentage points higher than that of their male peers. Read More SSC Results Published, Pass Rate 62.25% Beyond the general pass rates, girls also secured a significant lead in attaining the highest grade, GPA-5.  A total of 63,896 female students earned the perfect grade, compared to 52,780 male students, resulting in a margin of 11,116 additional top achievers among female candidates. In total, 1,138,877 students across the country successfully passed the SSC and equivalent examinations this year.  The gender breakdown of these successful candidates includes 607,939 females and 530,938 males.

The results of the 2026 SSC and equivalent examinations have been published. The results for all education boards across the country were released simultaneously today, Monday (August 10) at 10:00 AM. The overall pass rate for this year's SSC and equivalent exams is 62.25%. Among them, the pass rate under the nine general education boards is 64.05%, while it is 55.49% for the Madrasah Board and 58.20% for the Technical Board. Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the pass rates during a press conference at the conference room of the Ministry of Education. The minister stated that out of 1,829,485 students who participated in this year's SSC and equivalent exams, 1,138,877 students have successfully passed. Among them, 116,676 students obtained GPA-5. Examinees are checking their results through the education boards' websites and via mobile SMS. To check SSC results via SMS, students are required to go to the mobile message option and type SSC, followed by a space, the first three letters of the board in English, another space, their roll number, and the exam year, and send it to 16140. For example: SSC DHA 123456 2026. Results can also be obtained by sending an SMS to 16222. Dakhil examinees under the Madrasah Education Board can check their results by sending an SMS typing Dakhil MAD 123456 2026 to 16222. Meanwhile, technical education board examinees need to send SSC TEC 123456 2026 to 16222. This year, examinees can also collect their results from their respective educational institutions. To get institution-wise result sheets, one must go to the result corner of the education board's website and enter the institution's EIIN number. This year's SSC and equivalent exams began on April 21. Written exams for general education boards concluded on May 20, while the written tests for Dakhil and SSC (Vocational) examinations ended on May 24. Over 1,857,000 students had filled out forms to participate in this year's SSC and equivalent examinations, including 1,418,398 students who took the SSC exams under the nine general education boards.
