A cohort of young scholars from Bangladesh has triumphed in the thirteenth iteration of CERN’s esteemed Beamline for Schools (BL4S) contest, representing the nation's inaugural win in the international scientific competition.

The victorious Bangladeshi group, designated as Polaris, clinched the honor alongside competing teams originating from the United States, United Kingdom, Turkey, and India, as outlined in a bulletin released by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in Geneva.

This accomplishment materialized amidst intense rivalry, drawing 712 squads across 89 nations to this year’s BL4S tournament, which stands as a premier global academic contest for school and college pupils.

The triumphant domestic squad consists of learners hailing from institutions situated in Noakhali, Rangpur, and Dhaka.

The youngsters received a reception hosted by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in Geneva, during which they recounted their progression from executing scholarly trials utilizing constrained resources domestically to performing their ultimate evaluation at the University of Bonn and CERN.

Their research centered on polysiloxane-derived plastic scintillators designed for high-energy electron beam profiling and was executed at the ELSA accelerator housed within the University of Bonn.

Extending her felicitations to the adolescents, Ambassador Nahida Sobhan, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh in Geneva, characterized their feat as a potent manifestation of the aptitude, ingenuity, and international capacity residing within Bangladesh’s youth.

She recalled that the cornerstone for partnership between Bangladesh and CERN was established back in 2012 when the diplomatic post in Geneva mediated the execution of an Expression of Interest (EoI) bridging the two parties.

This collaboration was subsequently consolidated via the signing of an International Cooperation Agreement (ICA) in 2014.

The aforementioned measures unlocked novel prospects allowing Bangladeshi scientists, engineers, investigators, and scholars to engage in the academic and training frameworks of CERN, according to the official statement.

The Permanent Mission characterized the pupils' victory as a testament confirming that the populace of Bangladesh, specifically its younger generation, persists as the country's paramount asset.
