The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has issued a stern warning to government primary school teachers, cautioning them against using social media in ways that violate official government regulations or damage the reputation of public institutions and the education system.
In a formal directive issued today, the DPE announced that it will initiate strict departmental action against any teachers found posting or sharing derogatory remarks, misinformation, propaganda, or objectionable content regarding the government, its offices, or official decisions.
The directorate noted that it has recently observed some teachers engaging in online behavior that contradicts the “Guidelines for the Use of Social Media in Government Institutions-2019 (Revised Edition)” set by the Cabinet Division.
The DPE stated that such actions constitute a direct violation of public service conduct rules and will be treated as official misconduct under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
Following instructions from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the directorate has ordered monitoring committees at the divisional, district, and upazila levels to intensify their oversight of teachers' social media activities.
These committees are required to meet at least once a month to review online conduct and take necessary disciplinary measures where appropriate.
Divisional deputy directors, district primary education officers, and upazila or thana primary education officers have been explicitly tasked with identifying violators and ensuring prompt departmental action.
These officials are also required to submit detailed reports on all disciplinary actions taken to the directorate.
A letter formalizing these instructions, signed by DPE Director (Administration) Mahbuba Irene, has been disseminated to all relevant education offices, PTI superintendents, and administrative heads across the country.
Officials indicated that the directive is designed to reinforce compliance with conduct rules and ensure the responsible use of digital platforms by all government employees to safeguard the integrity of public institutions.
