A severe outbreak of measles continues to impact the country, with 11 more children dying from the disease and its symptoms over the past 24 hours, while 54 new confirmed cases were officially recorded.

According to the daily measles bulletin released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday, two of the latest fatalities were laboratory-confirmed cases of measles, while the remaining nine victims passed away after exhibiting clear symptoms of the highly contagious virus.

The report further highlighted a heavy burden on the healthcare system, noting that 1,261 new suspected measles patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country in just a single day.

This latest influx contributes to a stark escalation in cases over the last two months.

Since March 15 of this year, a total of 47,511 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized nationwide.

On a positive note, the DGHS stated that medical interventions have allowed 43,411 of those suspected cases to fully recover and be discharged from medical facilities so far.

However, the overall death toll from the current wave remains alarming.

With the latest fatalities factored in, the national death toll from the outbreak has reached 85 from laboratory-confirmed measles, alongside 414 deaths attributed to suspected measles cases.
